AR Vehicle Registration Summary

Arkansas Car Registration Overview
Registering a Vehicle in Arkansas
You must register your vehicle through the Arkansas Office of Motor Vehicles (OMV).
After you purchase either a new or used vehicle, visit your local OMV office to register your vehicle. Be sure to register and transfer the title of your vehicle within 30 days of the purchase date.
You can register certain passenger vehicles online via the Arkansas MyDMV vehicle services portal. If registering online, you’ll need to gather the same documents in the list below.
At your visit, please bring the following items:
- Proof of identity (i.e., driver license, ID).
- The Manufacturer’s Certificate of Origin, if your vehicle is new.
- A properly assigned vehicle title, if you purchased your vehicle from a private party.
- A completed Vehicle Registration Application (Form 10-381).
- Proof of car insurance.
- A State of Arkansas Vehicle Bill of Sale Odometer Disclosure Statement (Form 10-313), if applicable.
- Proof of current year county tax assessment.
- Proof of vehicle identification number (VIN) verification, if you purchased your vehicle out of state.
- Your Personal Property Tax Number (PPAN) assigned from your county assessor and proof of your paid tax receipt.
- Your current registration, if you are transferring your old license plates to your new vehicle.
- A federal odometer disclosure statement, for vehicles less than 20 years old.
- Lienholder documentation, if you finance or lease your vehicle.
- Payment for AR title and registration fees, and the applicable sales tax.
NOTE: You will receive an email notification regarding your title status after you submit your registration application online. The OMV will mail your plate and registration documents upon accepting your application.
AR Vehicle Registration for New Residents
New to Arkansas?
As a new resident, you may register online or in person at a local AR OMV office.
The Arkansas OMV requires you to transfer your out-of-state title and register your vehicle within 30 days of becoming an AR resident.
Online Registration for New Arkansas Residents
To register your vehicle online with MyDMV gather the following:
- A valid driver’s license or ID.
- Proof of ownership (e.g., your out of state vehicle title).
- Your lienholder contract or security agreement, if you lease or finance your vehicle.
- Proof of auto insurance.
- Proof of paid property taxes.
- An odometer statement.
- Proof of vehicle identification number (VIN) inspection, if applicable.
- Payment for AR car registration, fees, and taxes.
In Person Registration for New Arkansas Residents
To register your vehicle in person at your local AR OMV, you must submit:
- A valid driver’s license or ID.
- A completed Vehicle Registration Application (Form 10-381).
- Proof of ownership (e.g., your out of state vehicle title).
- Your lienholder contract or security agreement, if you lease or finance your vehicle.
- Proof of auto insurance.

Registration for Military Drivers in Arkansas
Arkansas Military Residents
Active duty military residents in Arkansas can register their vehicles as normal. See Registering a Vehicle in Arkansas.
Arkansas military residents stationed out-of-state may contact the AR OMV for specific instructions on how to obtain Arkansas vehicle registration.
Registration for Non-Residents
The Arkansas OMV does NOT require service members who are stationed in Arkansas (but legally reside out of state) to register their vehicles in Arkansas. However, they must maintain current registration and car insurance from their home state during deployment.
If Arkansas is NOT your home of record and you choose to register your vehicle in Arkansas, you are exempt from paying assessment and personal property taxes. You must provide a copy of your Leave and Earnings Statement (LES) showing active duty in Arkansas.

Renewing Your AR Registration
In Arkansas, you can renew your vehicle registration online, by mail, by phone, and in person at your local Arkansas OMV office. You may NOT renew your registration by phone or online if you have outstanding property taxes.
The AR DMV will send a registration renewal notice before your registration is set to expire. Your renewal notice contains the following details:
- Your renewal fees.
- The date your renewal is due.
- Any required restrictions for your renewal.
If you did NOT receive your renewal notice in the mail, you can still renew your registration with the last 4 digits of your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), license plate number and zip code.

Replace a Lost or Damaged Registration
If your AR registration card is lost, stolen, or damaged, you may apply for a duplicate online, or in person at your nearest AR OMV office.
Arkansas Registration Replacements Online
To replace your Arkansas registration online, visit the AR OMV Department of Finance and Administration (DFA) online portal to purchase a duplicate. Be ready to provide your:
- License plate number
- Vehicle identification number (VIN)
- Driver license number
- Registration zip Code
- Payment for the duplicate registration fee
Registration Replacements In Person
To replace your AR registration card in person, visit your local AR DFA office and present:
- A completed Vehicle Registration Application (Form 10-381).
- Proof of identity (e.g., driver’s license or ID).
- Your license plate number.
- Your vehicle information (e.g., vehicle make, model, color).
- Your vehicle identification number (VIN).
- Payment for the duplicate registration fee.
Changes to Your Arkansas Car Registration
Name Changes
The Arkansas OMV allows you to make changes to your name on your Arkansas vehicle registration in person at a nearby AR OMV office.
You must first file your name change with the Social Security office. Next, you can change your name on your Arkansas driver’s license.
To change your name on your vehicle registration in person, visit your local Arkansas OMV office and bring:
- Your Arkansas driver license.
- A completed Vehicle Registration Application (Form 10-381), if needed.
- Your current certificate of title.
- Legal documents supporting your name change, such as a:
- Marriage license, if the name change is due to marriage.
- Divorce decree.
- Court-ordered name change document.
- Payment for the $10 duplicate title fee and any duplicate registration fees.
Address Changes on Arkansas Vehicle Registration
You can change your address with the Arkansas OMV online, or in person at your local AR DFA OMV office.
Online Address Change in South Carolina
To change your address online, please visit the AR OMV Department of Finance and Administration online address change portal.
When you begin the address change process, be ready to provide your:
- Current driver’s license number
- Vehicle identification number (VIN)
- Zip code
Follow the prompts to complete your address change.
Address Changes in Person
To change your address in person, contact any Arkansas OMV office location for a list of required documents for your address change.
Vehicle Registration Fees in AR
AR Vehicle Registration Fees
In Arkansas, car registration fees vary by gross vehicle weight, vehicle type, and city and county taxes.
Here are some of the current Arkansas registration and registration-related fees:
- Passenger vehicles and motorhome registration 3,000 pounds or less: $17
- Passenger vehicles and motorhome registration 3,001 pounds to 4,500 pounds: $25
- Passenger vehicles and motorhome registration 4.500 pounds and greater: $30
- Trucks and vans registration fee: $21
- Motorcycles under 250CC: $3
- Motorcycles over 250CC: $7
- Validation decal fee: $2.50
- Original and duplicate title application fee: $10
- Tag transfer fee: $1
- Vehicle sales use/tax: 6.5% for vehicles valued above $4,000. There is no sales tax on vehicles valued below $4,000.
