Idaho Address Changes 101

There is plenty to go over when it comes to changing your address in the state of Idaho. The first thing to keep in mind is that you are required to let the Idaho DMV know about your move within 30 days of moving to a new address. This is a requirement for many other states, as well. There are different requirements depending on whether you are moving within the state of Idaho or you are moving to another state entirely.

What If I’m Moving within Idaho?

It is common for Idaho residents to move within the state every now and then. If you are moving within Idaho, you have to inform the Idaho DMV within 30 days of moving, as previously mentioned. You can also update the address on your DMV records if you so wish. To do so, you will have to submit an Idaho Change of Address Request form. This form is also known as Form ITD 3239. You can submit this form in a number of ways. You can send in this form by email, by fax, or by mail. You can also drop off the Idaho Change of Address Request form in person at a DMV location in the state if you wish.

What If I’m Moving to Idaho from Another State?

There is plenty to do whenever you move from one state to another in the United States. This is the case when it comes to the state of Idaho, too. You will have to do a few things that concern the Idaho DMV if you are a new Idaho resident. In the event that you have an out-of-state driver’s license, you have to transfer this license for an Idaho driver’s license. You have 90 days to do this once you have moved permanently into the state of Idaho. You only have 30 days to transfer your out-of-state driver’s license in the event that you have a commercial driver’s license.

What If I’m Moving from Idaho to Another State?

In the event that you are moving from Idaho to another state, you can keep your Idaho driver’s license. Some states require you to give them your out-of-state driver’s license when you are getting a new driver’s license in that state. For this reason, you should hang onto your Idaho driver’s license. It is also worth noting that you are not required to return your Idaho license plates when you move out of the state. Many states require you to do this, but Idaho is not one of them. You should contact your local DMV office if you do want to dispose of your Idaho license plate. You can find your local DMV office in Idaho here.
