Introduction
Massachusetts has the Registry of Motor Vehicles which takes care of vehicle-related issues. Not all RMV locations do the same things. Some will offer full services, such as by offering driver testing and licensing, while others work with updated paperwork and other documentation. There are 64 total RMV locations.
Licensing Centers
Licensing centers are not specific in Massachusetts. Other than needing to complete a road test at one of several RMV locations, AAA can handle most licensing issues. Some of the locations that you may be able to visit to complete your licensing include AAA locations in:

Please note that some of the RMV and AAA locations are closed due to the pandemic. Others have strict requirements that ask that you do make an appointment before coming to the building. Without an appointment, these facilities may turn you away.
AAA Vehicle Centers
AAA members in Massachusetts are able to complete many RMV-related transactions at local AAA locations. These facilities are able to offer services such as:
- Renewing your Class D or Class M driver’s license
- Replacing your license
- Renewing your Mass ID card
- Replacing most vehicle titles
- Renewing most vehicle registrations
- Transferring registrations
- Replacing most vehicle registrations
- Replacing a Mass ID card
- Starting a Passenger or Motorcycle learner’s permit application

Road Testing Locations
There are several road testing locations found throughout Massachusetts. Due to COVID-19, drivers must schedule in advance by going to Mass.gov and following the scheduling protocols here.

There are other RMV locations as well, but due to COVID-19, many are closed during the State of Emergency and have not reopened.
