In Nevada, there are Department of Motor Vehicle offices as well as alternatives, such as going online to complete renewals or going to a kiosk for support. Presently, all people have to make appointments to go to a physical DMV location in a metropolitan area. There are some walk-in services available in Henderson, Reno, and Las Vegas on Saturdays for original vehicle registrations and other actions that can’t be completed online. Normally, walk-in services are limited to general information, so most people do need to make an appointment.

Skip the Trip

If you don’t have a local DMV, you may be able to avoid going to one out of your area by skipping the trip. The state has an excellent skip the trip program that is helpful in avoiding lines at the DMV. You don’t need to make an appointment for skip-the-trip visits. For example, if you go online, you can renew your:

  • Vehicle registration
  • Driver’s license
  • ID card

Mail and Fax Transactions

Mail and fax transactions help you avoid a trip to the DMV. You should allow for four to six weeks of processing time if you send in a transaction by mail or fax.

REAL ID

All REAL ID renewals and upgrades need to be handled in person. You can visit the website here to schedule your appointment before May 3, 2023, when the REAL ID deadline hits.

Senior Driver License Extension

Due to COVID-19, senior driver’s licenses can be renewed longer and online. The extension’s information can be found here. If there are other documents that aren’t up-to-date, then they will need to be reviewed at a DMV location.

Metropolitan DMV Locations

There are several DMV locations. These are broken down into metropolitan area offices and rural offices. To be seen at a DMV location in a metropolitan area, you must have an appointment. The main metropolitan DMV locations include:

  • Las Vegas
  • Carson City
  • Reno
  • Henderson

These will see walk-in visits for vehicle movement permits without an appointment.

All DMV Locations

This is a current list, as of May 2021, of all DMV locations in Nevada.

  • Henderson
  • Las Vegas, North Decatur
  • Las Vegas, East Sahara
  • Las Vegas, West Flamingo
  • Las Vegas AAA Aliante (Vehicle registration and handicap placards only)
  • Las Vegas AAA Rainbow (Vehicle registration and handicap placards only)
  • Reno
  • Reno AAA (Vehicle registration and handicap placards only)
  • Sparks AAA (Vehicle registration and handicap placards only)
  • Carson City
  • Elko
  • Ely
  • Fallon
  • Hawthorne
  • Laughlin
  • Mesquite
  • Pahrump
  • Tonopah
  • Winnemucca
  • Yerington

There are 20 locations that may service your needs, depending on what you need. The AAA locations have limited services, so it’s a good idea to call ahead if you aren’t sure if the facility will handle your DMV issue.

For all rural DMV locations, most services are available via walk-in, but this is not true in Carson City. Appointments are also required for all Driving Skills tests, since an advisor has to be available to complete the test.
