In order to get any sort of driver’s license in Oregon, it is important that you first find an Oregon DMV office that is near you. Getting a Provisional Driver’s License
A provisional driver’s license is the term for a driver’s license that you can get in Oregon if you are under 18 years old. You have to first be 16 or 17 years old, have had an instruction permit for six months, and complete 100 hours of supervised driving experience. If you have taken and passed an approved Driver Education course, you only have to complete 50 hours of supervised driving experience.
You have to make an appointment to take the driving test. You can schedule the test with the Oregon DMV online or you can make an appointment with a Class C testing business. After that, you can start your application online with your parent’s signature, determine if you want a Real ID, and then go to the DMV office where you scheduled your test on testing day. You then provide proof of your physical address and identity, pass the vision test, and pass the driving test. After that, you pay the $60 fee or the $90 fee for a Real ID, and have your picture taken.
Getting a Driver’s License
If you are over 18 years old and applying for a regular driver’s license, the process is somewhat different. First, you have to figure out if you want a Real ID, start the online pre-application at DMV2U if you have not gotten an Oregon credential before and make an appointment at an Oregon DMV office. You then provide proof of your physical address and identity and you must meet the additional requirements if you want a Real ID.
You then have to pass a vision test, pass the knowledge test if required, schedule a driving test, and pass the driving test. After that, you simply pay the applicable fees. You get your picture taken and then you will have your driver’s license.
Renewing Your Driver’s License
You have to appear in person at an Oregon DMV office to renew a valid driver’s license. You will need to have your current driver’s license since you will have to surrender it in addition to proof of your full legal name, legal U.S. presence, identity, birth date, and Oregon residency. You will also have to bring a completed Application for Driving Privileges or ID Card.
You will need to provide proof of your Social Security Number and pay for your driver’s license renewal fee of $60. You can pay by cash or check. If you are 50 years or older, you have to pass a vision screening.
Replacing Your Driver’s License
You can get a replacement driver’s license but you do have to go to an Oregon DMV office in person to do so. You will have to present a completed Driver License/Permit/ID Card Application in addition to proof of your full legal name, legal US presence, identity, birth date, and Social Security Number. If you moved since you got your original driver’s license, you will have to provide proof of residency, as well. You then get your picture taken and pay the applicable fee. It costs $26 to replace your driver’s license in Oregon.
