There are many things that you have to do in order to operate a vehicle legally in the state of Rhode Island. One of these things is to register your vehicle with the Rhode Island DMV. It is fairly easy to complete this process. You also have to renew your vehicle’s registration before it expires so your vehicle registration remains valid. Driver’s License Application
Another thing that you have to do in Rhode Island and any other state to drive a car legally is to have a valid driver’s license. As you know, you have to pass several tests before you can obtain your driver’s license. However, you do have to apply for your driver’s license, too.
In order to apply for a driver’s license in Rhode Island, you first must complete the Application for License, Identification Card, and Permit and submit it to the DMV. You have to fill out all necessary fields. Additionally, you have to pay the $39.50 fee in order to get your first driver’s license in the state of Rhode Island.
Application for Vehicle Title
In addition to having a valid driver’s license and registering your vehicle with the state DMV, you also have to have a valid vehicle title in order to legally operate a vehicle in Rhode Island. Thankfully, the Rhode Island DMV makes this process fairly straightforward. As with the other forms, you have to completely fill out the Application for Title form and submit it to the Rhode Island DMV. Naturally, you also have to sign the vehicle title application, as well. As far as fees go, you do have to pay a $52.50 fee in order to either get a new title or to get a duplicate title.
Request for Vehicle Title Information
As previously mentioned, you do need a valid vehicle title in order to drive a vehicle legally. However, it is also possible that you might need to know some information about a particular vehicle title. If this is the case, you can request this information from the Rhode Island DMV. You do have to complete the Request for Title Information form and send it to the Rhode Island DMV. It is also worth mentioning that you do have to pay a fee for this request. The fee for requesting information about a vehicle title in Rhode Island is $54.50.
Vehicle Sales Tax Form
There are some states that require you to pay sales tax when you buy a vehicle and some states that do not require this. Rhode Island does require you to pay sales tax when you buy a vehicle. You should know that you have to pay this sales tax by the 20th of the month following the month you bought the vehicle. For example, if you bought a vehicle on August 3rd, you will have to pay this sales tax by September 20th. You have to fill out this Sales Tax form in order to complete this process.
