The Basics of Utah Address Changes
Drivers in all states, including Utah, must update their address with the state DMV when they move. All states have requirements for how quickly drivers must submit this updated information. Utah requires that it be submitted within 10 days. Keep in mind that mail from the state of Utah is not forwarded by the post office, even if you have left a forwarding address with USPS. Address changes can be made online or in-person if you are moving within Utah. If you are moving to Utah, you must update your address in person.
Changing Your Address When You Move To Utah
You have to go to a Utah DMV office in person when you move to Utah because you must get a new driver’s license and new registration for any vehicles that you may have.
To exchange an out-of-state license for a Utah license, you must take a vision test and provide both proof of identity and proof of residency. You may also have to take a written test. Proof of identity may include:
- Valid state-issued driver’s license or ID
- Valid passport
Proof of residency may include:
- Lease agreement
- Mortgage statement
- Utility bill
- Bank statement
If you are getting a Utah registration for a vehicle previously registered in another state, you must submit the following:
- Previous registration and plates
- Valid safety and emissions inspection certifications
- Proof of Utah insurance
- Proof of identity
- Proof of residency
Changing Your Address When You Move Within Utah
Changing your address when you are moving within Utah is much simpler than changing your address when you are moving from another state. As previously mentioned, you can update your Utah address online or in person. If you choose to update your address in person, you have to bring two proofs of residency with you. Please refer to the list of acceptable proofs of residency in the previous section.
If you choose to update your address online, you must have your information ready. The information that you must provide includes:
- Your last name
- Your driver’s license number
- The last four digits of your Social Security Number
- The date your license was issued
You will have to confirm that your updated address is truly your correct address. Making a false statement may be punishable by law. There is no fee to update your address.
