The Basics of Selling A Vehicle in Utah

The majority of drivers in the state of Utah will sell a vehicle at some point in their Utah residency. Of course, you have to examine your vehicle and come up with a reasonable sale price. You also have to get the word out to potential buyers so you are able to sell the vehicle.

You will also have to provide the current emissions certificates, signed certificate of title, and the current registration certificate. Additionally, you will have to take off the license plates and inform the Utah DMV that you have sold the vehicle. You will have to provide the Utah DMV with your signature, the make, and model year of the vehicle, and the plate number or the VIN. You can submit all of this information to:

Division of Motor Vehicles
MVCC Correspondence
P.O. Box 30412
Salt Lake City, UT 84130

Signing Over the Vehicle’s Title in Utah

You have to sign over the vehicle title in order to complete the sale of the vehicle in any state. Of course, this includes the state of Utah. The process of doing so is fairly simple. You and the buyer simply have to fill in the required information and sign the vehicle title. This legally transfers ownership of the vehicle over to the buyer.

On a related note, it is also a good idea to provide the buyer with a bill of sale. This bill of sale contains information such as your name and address as well as the buyer’s name and address, a description of the vehicle, and the purchase price. The bill of sale serves as further proof of the transaction.

What Should You Do If You Lost the Vehicle Title?
